Global Blue launches tax free shopping scheme in Kazakhstan
Global Blue has been enlisted by the Kazakhstani Government to launch a tax free shopping scheme in Almaty, Kazakhstan’s biggest city.
The scheme is part of the government’s plans to position Kazakhstan as one of central Asia’s leading shopping destinations and to attract more international shoppers.
Global Blue’s first tax free shopping service in the country will begin at Almaty’s Esentai Mall which features 100 of luxury brands.
The scheme is expected to be particularly attractive to shoppers from China and the Middle East. In the past few years, Kazakhstan has experienced growth in tourism numbers with approximately 6.5 million international arrivals per year. This is expected to increase to nine million by 2025.
Jorge Casal, senior vice president for new markets and public affairs at G lobal Blue, said: “Global Blue is glad to launch a tax free shopping scheme in Kazakhstan. With its array of luxury stores, Esentai Mall is the most natural place to introduce the new scheme, and we are confident that it will attract more valuable international shoppers to the area. We are proud to collaborate with Esentai Mall and the Kazakhstani Government in the development of this project.”
