Gibson is named as new Morrisons chairman
Supermarket chain Morrisons has named the successor to chairman Sir Ken Morrison, who is to step down after more than 50 years with the company.
Morrisons said that current Trinity Mirror chairman Sir Ian Gibson will join the group as deputy chairman in September before succeeding Sir Ken by next March. Sir Ian will join the supermarket group as deputy chairman in September before taking over from Sir Ken by next March.
Having been at the helm of the company since 1956, Sir Ken stepped down from the day-to-day running of the Bradford-based business in 2005. He will retain the title of life president when he steps down next year.
Sir Ian comes to the group after more than 30 years in the motor industry. He is also a director of baking chain Greggs and banking group Northern Rock.
