Garden Trading ends 30th year on a high

Garden Trading is ending its 30th year on a high with sales up 25% compared to 2023.

The home and garden retailer’s sales climbed by 77% from September to November following a 130% uplift in ecommerce sales.

Garden Trading said trade has been boosted by the introduction of 1,100 new lines in 2024 from 16 lines a year earlier. The company has also benefited from investment in photography and creative content, as well as an overhaul of its CRM structure.

Acquired by TIM Group Holdings two years ago, the success marks a significant turnaround from the challenges the company faced in the wake of previous owner Joules’ administration.

Richard Bell, managing director of Garden Trading, said: “We are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in such a short time. There was no pipeline of new product development when we acquired the company, so to start from scratch and achieve such growth has been a monumental effort.

“The overwhelmingly positive reception from customers, combined with our strong performance, is clear evidence that we’re heading in the right direction.”

The company said its Christmas collections have been particularly successful this year, with sales up 150%. Other top performing categories have included textiles, glassware and ceramics, as well as furniture items such as stools, chairs and kitchen furniture.

November marked Garden Trading’s biggest-ever month for new customer recruitment, with the company’s active customer base up 33% year-on-year.

Bell added: “We’ve made incredible strides, and this is just the beginning. As we head into the first quarter of 2025, we look forward to continuing this customer-focused journey of growth and innovation.”
