GameStop closes stores in Northern Ireland
26 January, 2012 | by Retail Bulletin
GameStop, the computer games retailer, has shut all four of its branches in Northern Ireland. The retailer’s Belfast, Bangor, Newry and Londonderry stores closed last Sunday.
In a statement Gamestop said that all customer credits will be honoured through its website or in stores in the Irish Republic.
The company said the closures were part of a plan announced six months ago to exit the UK market from a bricks and mortar perspective and to focus on expanding the retailer’s digital offerings in the UK.
Michael Finucane, GameStop’s group commercial director, said: “We have experienced tremendous sales growth on our UK ecommerce site. Our go forward plan is to serve the UK market with enhanced digital and online offerings.”
