Game like-for-likes slip
Trading ahead of expectations for games retailer
July 3 2003
Game has seen a fall in like-for-like sales in the 21 weeks to June 28, but stressed that trading is ahead of forecasts.
Chairman Peter Lewis told shareholders at the games retailer’s annual meeting current trading faces comparisons with last year’s high profile console launches.
Overall sales are up by 4.1 per cent, with like- for-likes down 2.9 per cent. The same period last year saw a strong increase in like-for-like sales of 34 per cent.
Lewis said: “Any comparison is distorted due to the fact that this period last year represented the strongest period of trading within the year, benefiting from the launch of the Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo GameCube.
“We have continued to trade ahead of our expectations for this period and are pleased with the progress we have made, as we continue to see improvements in market share.”
