GAME Digital revenue up 17% in first quarter

Video games retailer GAME Digital saw its group revenue grow by 17% year-on-year in its first quarter as it continued to grow its market share in the UK and Spain.

In the 13 weeks to 25 October, both GAME’s UK and Spanish businesses continued to grow their market share across hardware, software and digital in their respective territories.

In a statement, GAME said its focus on the development of its digital offer had helped drive an increase in digital market share through in-store and online sales over the period, with strong growth in non-IFRS digital receipts of 49% year-on-year.

The retailer said it has now completed the transfer of 43 of the 45 stores in Spain from GameStop.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

During the period over 150,000 customers registered with the retailer’s GAME App across the UK and Spain, taking the total number to over 900,000.

GAME chief executive Martyn Gibbs said: “The new financial year has begun in line with our expectations. Overall we remain well prepared for peak, with our campaign “It’s GAME season” now launched across all forms of media, exclusives secured on many of the major pre-Christmas new game releases, a great line-up of customer offers across all product categories and a strong balance sheet.”
