Freemans appoints Susie Calvert as chief merchandising officer

Digital department store Freemans has appointed Susie Calvert as chief merchandising officer.

She has succeeded Linda Quinn who retired last autumn.

With over 30 years of experience in the UK and global retail sector, Calvert previously worked as commercial development director at  PDS/Radius brands and was appointed to the board of WRAP in 2020.

Prior to that, she was chief operating officer at Jasper Conran and, earlier in her career, was trading director at Debenhams.

Freemans has been transitioning to a digital retailer in recent years.  In September 2023, it announced that it would be dropping its very familiar catalogue after 118 years as more customers shopped online.

Ann Steer, chief executive at Freemans, said: “We are delighted that Susie has joined the team.  Susie’s enviable experience over the last 30 years will ensure that our product overing continues to evolve and differentiates Freemans from the wider market.”

“It’s something that is central to the continued momentum we are delivering in terms of growth as we continue on our journey to be the digital department store of choice.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Linda for her outstanding contribution to the business and wish her all the very best in her retirement.”

Freemans has recently posted a 5% uplift in Christmas like-for-like sales.
