Flooring Superstore celebrates sustainability milestones
Flooring Superstore is celebrating a range of key milestones after one year of sustainability partnerships.
Work has included planting over 3.5 million trees, protecting 29,979 acres of rainforest and removing over one million plastic bottles from the sea.
In August 2020, the retailer committed to planting one tree for every square metre of flooring it sells through partnerships with the Reforestation Project and Rainforest Trust UK. It has also partnered with the ReSea Project whose main aim is to end the ocean plastic crisis.
Other work has included donating £21,254.82 of flooring to worthy causes and £18,870 to its chosen charity, the Woodland Warrior Programme.
The company has also invested in a range of new sustainable product lines including the Serene range of eco-friendly carpets made from recycled products rescued from the ocean.
Dan Foskett, chief executive of Flooring Superstore, said: “We’re on a journey to be more than just a carbon neutral company. At Flooring Superstore, we’re committed to positive actions that make a real difference. Part of this has seen our sustainability partnerships with key organisations to contribute to reducing our carbon footprint and issues relating to global warming by planting trees, cleaning up oceans, protecting habitats and supporting communities.
“We are proud of how far we have come in the last year but as a flooring retailer we understand we are part of an industry that has a lot of work to do to be more environmentally friendly. We hope to change this, one step at a time.”
Flooring Superstore is aiming to have the majority of its products made from recycled materials and be fully recyclable within the next ten years.
