First Jersey store for Waitrose
Expansion continues with the opening of its first wholly-owned store outside Britain.
The 21,000 sq ft shop at St Saviour, Jersey is one of five branches set to open on the Channel Islands over the next two months.
Waitrose will use new distribution channels and has sourced 500 local products for the five shops from the islands..
Six hundred people in the Channel Islands will be joining the Waitrose business as partners within the John Lewis Partnership. These include 400 people who were employees at the acquired shops and 200 new recruits.
Managing director Mark Price said the chain had wanted a full presence on the islands for many years.
He added: “These branch openings support our ambition of taking the Waitrose brand to more people in more places and the investment we’ve made in systems and structures gives us a platform for future international growth”.
Waitrose has 243 shops in Wales, England and Scotland and recently opened three outlets in the Middle East – in Dubai and Bahrain.
