Federated To Supply Hudson’s Bay

Agreement Links Leading US and Canadian Department Store Chains
May 22 2002
Federated Department Stores has signed a deal to provide its private label brands to Canadian retailer the Hudson’s Bay Company.

The agreement will see the New York-based Federated Merchandising Group supply the 100 The Bay department stores with Federated-owned brands. These include fashion labels INC, Style & co, Charter Club and Clubroom, and homeware brand.
The deal links two of North America’s biggest and best-known department store operators. Federated operates chains including Macy’s and Bloomingdales, while Hudson’s Bay, founded by Royal Charter in 1670, is one of the world’s longest-established retailers and a Canadian icon. As well as The Bay, it operates the Zellers chain.
Federated already sells it brands to retailers in Japan, Australia, South America and Bermuda. Federated Merchandising Group president Leonard Marcus said: “As the world marketplace becomes increasingly smaller, Federated continues to develop strategic alliances with non-competing retailers to leverage our investment in private brand development, as well as to strengthen the brand names through international exposure.”
