FDI in retail sector: Communist Party of India to organise protests
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has said will organise countrywide protests and “mobilise the support of other political forces” against the countries decision to allow 51 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) in the retail sector, beginning with single brands.
“We have opposed the Centre’s decision and are talking to other political parties [to mobilise support against the move],” its general secretary, Prakash Karat said.
The Centre recently announced its decision to allow 51 per cent FDI in the retail sector for single brands. The CPI(M) leadership protested against the decision which had been taken despite a note being issued to the Centre and the Congress opposing any such move.
The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) said that the decision by the Centre had been taken without any consultation with the Left parties.
