Fashion sales shine at John Lewis in the run up to Christmas

Sales figures released today (for week ending 20 November) by John Lewis reveal significant increases in several departments, particularly in fashion

Womenswear, menswear and childrenswear all saw major year-on-year increases, driven by both colder weather and customers buying outfits ahead of the festive season.

The department store achieved a sterling total of £88 million last week which is a 12 per cent increase on the same week last year, 14 per cent up on last week and a record-breaking 29 per cent increase on a two year figure.
As well as fashion and beauty products, last week saw Kindle Readers flying off the shelves, closely followed by iPads, SLR digital cameras and computers, with John Lewis customers taking advantage of the company’s free warranties and after-sales service.
Furniture, upholstery, rugs and beds in particular also saw significant sales uplifts.

Lesley Ballantyne, Director, Operational Development for John Lewis, says, ‘We are delighted with last week’s excellent result, particularly as we are up against very strong figures from last year. Our customers are clearly confident of getting the best price, quality and service from John Lewis as we maintain our commitment to being Never Knowingly Undersold – both in our shops and online.”
