Fashion leads 36,000 sq ft of new lettings at Bristol’s The Galleries

The Galleries shopping centre in Bristol is welcoming six new retailers in the run-up to Christmas.

High street clothing retailer Peacocks has returned to Bristol by taking a 9,000 square foot store on the ground floor, while women’s fashion retailer West Coast has signed up to the adjoining 4,000 square foot unit.

Pulp, a clothing concept based on the fusion of pop culture and fashion, has opened a 2,900 square foot unit on the top floor.

Meanwhile, Bargain Buys has committed to the largest new letting with a lease on a 16,000 square foot store anchoring the ground floor close to the centre’s Broadmead entrance.

Also adjacent to the Broadmead entrance is jewellery retailer F Hinds which has launched its 112th UK store in a 2,000 square foot unit.

The retailers have joined Party Magic, a fancy dress and party accessories shop, which took a 2,300 square foot unit in September.

The six new retailers will add to the mix of 90 national, international and independent names already in The Galleries. The centre opened in 1991 to become Bristol city centre’s first enclosed shopping mall.

Existing tenants include Argos, Bo Concept, Boots, Burger King, Game, Gap, Laura Ashley, the Post Office, Robert Dyas, Santander, Thornton’s, TK Maxx, Trespass, Waterstone’s, Whittards, WH Smith and 99p Stores.

Since 2011 there has been £5 million of capital invested in The Galleries by owner InfraRed. The investment has included feature entrances to Broadmead and Merchant Street, new escalators, refurbished malls including ‘green’ lighting and high quality flooring, creating a modern food court to anchor the middle floor and enhanced washroom and disabled facilities.

“We are excited to have such high quality retailers coming to our scheme” said Chris Huxtable, director at InfraRed.

“Our investment in The Galleries is reaping rewards and, in the face of the challenge from online retail channels, we are delighted that we can offer shoppers the benefit of an exciting tenant line up alongside ease of parking and an excellent food and beverage offer, all within the only enclosed centre in the city.”
