Fashion drives John Lewis weekly sales

John Lewis has reported another difficult trading week for the seven days to 4 June with sales up just 0.5 % on the same week last year.

The Home and Fashion departments both saw increases of 1.5% with men’s formalwear continuing to perform well – up 23.4% on the previous week. Online sales delivered growth of 16% with the fashion sales “exceeding expectations”, said the retailer.

However, only three John Lewis branches managed to increase their sales, these being Leicester, Poole and Glasgow.

John Lewis director David Barford was hopeful that the more unsettled weather will have boosted trade this week saying: “We are now into a new week and with the more unsettled weather we have every opportunity to make the most of the footfall in shops together with the continuing growth of business through all our channels.”
