Ex-Asda executive leaving Coles Myer
Steven Cain parts company with Australian retail group
Steven Cain, the former Asda executive bought in to head up the food operation of Australian retail group Coles Myer, is leaving after only 14 months in the job.
Coles Myer CEO John Fletcher said today that Cain, who was appointed managing director of Food, Liquor and Fuel in August 2003, will be leaving the business in the new year. Hani Zayadi, currently managing director of the group’s Kmart chain, will take over the role.
Fletcher said: “Steven has led the integration of the supermarket management teams, the design of new and innovative ways of delighting customers and the relocation of our liquor business to Melbourne.
“This important work begun by Steven will continue with Hani at the helm. Hani’s extensive retail leadership credentials equip him well to take the Food, Liquor and Fuel business forward and maximise the benefits for customers, shareholders and team members of the changes initiated by Steven.”
Cain was a member of the leadership team put together by former Asda chief executive Archie Norman in the early 1990s, and had also worked for Norman in finance at retail group Kingfisher.
