Footwear retailer sees rise in sales

European sales helped footwear retailer Timberland overcome a competitive US market in the third quarter.
The US based retailer reported profit for the 13 weeks to September 26 up to $53.3m from $49.2m in te same period last year. While US sales were down 1.7 per cent year-on-year, international sales rose by 22 per cent to $175.4m..
President and CEO, Jeffrey Swartz, said: “Timberland’s international business, which drove our revenue growth in the quarter, delivered solid gains in both Europe and Asia as we continued to enhance our premium integrated brand positioning in those regions.
“In the United States, our focus on driving footwear innovation across our portfolio, combined with the expansion of our wholesale apparel business, enabled us to deliver solid results in a competitive retail marketplace.”
Timberland operates around 20 UK stores, as well as concessions.
