Energy Saving Trust arm independent retailers with tools of the trade

Independent electrical retailers are today being urged to sign up to the energy saving recommended scheme and take advantage of the new free toolkit from the Energy Saving Trust, as latest figures reveal increasing consumer demand for ‘greener’ products.

The market share for energy efficient* white goods has risen to over 70 per cent this year compared to just 16 per cent in 2000.
Now, the Energy Saving Trust has launched a new toolkit to help independent electrical retailers promote to their customers products which will save energy, cost less to run and help the environment.
With over 2000 registered companies, independent electrical retailers make up 25 per cent of the total white goods sector and are in a unique position to advise customers on which products to choose. The toolkit provides retailers with a range of information and helpful resources including:
[L]Educational materials to help employees understand the benefits of saving energy and energy saving products[/L]
[L]In-store promotional materials including window and product stickers[/L]
[L]Leaflets for customers explaining the benefits of energy efficiency and energy saving products[/L]
Frances Galvanoni, Trade Marketing Manager at Energy Saving Trust said: “Independent electrical retailers have a vital role to play in promoting energy saving to customers. The toolkit is tailored specifically for independents and will help them not only guide their customers to energy saving goods, but also help them ensure their staff are aware of which products are energy efficient and why they are endorsed under the energy saving recommended scheme.”

Richard Almond, Buyer at Oldrid and Co (Downtown), an independent retailer based in Lincolnshire, said: “We are committed to stocking a wide range of energy saving products and the energy saving recommended scheme has been invaluable in assisting us promote these to our customers in store and online.”

The toolkit adds to a range of marketing and promotional opportunities provided by the energy saving recommended scheme, such as, store listing on the Energy Saving Trust website, regular updates on appliances that qualify for registration and awareness raising of energy saving recommended products through the Energy Saving Trust’s multi – million pound ‘save your 20%’ campaign.
