Edinburgh Woollen Mill enjoys strong Christmas

Edinburgh Woollen Mill saw its like-for-like sales increase by 2.7% over the key Christmas trading period.

In the five weeks to 3 January, total sales grew by 6.2% after the clothing retailer opened 15 new stores in the current financial year. Online sales rose by 23.4%.

At the group’s Peacock’s fashion chain like-for-like sales grew by 5.2% with total sales increasing by 11.1%. There was also a strong performance from online sales which surged by 92.6% in the period.

Steve Simpson, group commercial director, said: “Our programme of store openings, together with the successful launch of a popular click-and-collect service across group websites, continued to make our brands more accessible to customers during 2014.

“We now plan to maintain the speed of expansion with more than 100 new stores in the next 12 months, while the launch of in-store ordering will further improve our customer-focused multi-channel offering and drive online sales.”
