Ebay gets 3 million mobile visitors in one day
Ebay saw more than three million Brits log on to its website in the UK via their mobile devices on Sunday 2 December. This was almost double the number on the same day last year as festive mobile sales rocketed by 110% with traffic peaking at around 8pm.
The surge in mobile sales comes after Ebay revealed that more than half of UK consumers plan to shop more on mobile this Christmas.
The day also marked a record-breaking ‘Super Sunday’ for Ebay, with over nine million unique UK visitors to the site throughout the day. This was an 18% increase in visitors from the same day last year and drove a 15% uplift in sales across the site as a whole.
Ebay said that 25 items per second were purchased on its website in the UK via mobiles and tablets on the day. Home & Garden was the most popular search category, with Christmas and party supplies among the top selling items.
Never Miss a Retail Update!Ebay last week launched the UK’s first interactive, socially powered shopping experience, Ebay Social Shopping, providing shoppers in London’s Covent Garden with a live pulse of what the nation was hunting for during Super Sunday. The social shopping experience harnessed product recommendations from social networks including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, combined with Ebay’s own search data.
Olivier Ropars, senior director, mobile, at Ebay commented: “The festive is season is always a busy time of year so it’s no surprise to see consumers taking advantage of their mobile and tablet devices to save time and track down some great Christmas deals.
“Mobile devices put a global store in the pockets of millions of consumers around the world – and as our busiest Super Sunday to date has proved, they also provide a huge opportunity for retailers who adopt effective multi-channel strategies, enabling them to reach the increasing number of shoppers who turn to their mobile devices for their festive shopping.”
