DRL makes bid for Comet

DRL, the owner of online white goods retailer Appliances Online, has submitted a “seven-figure” offer for the website and brand of failed electrical retailer Comet.

The company, which also runs e-commerce operations for Next and Argos, hopes to run the Comet brand online to maintain a competitive market.

John Roberts, the founder and chief executive of DRL, said: “Appliances
Online’s reputation for outstanding customer service and value, combined with the Comet brand’s resonance and recall, would make for a powerful force online.”

Since Comet went into administration, Appliances Online has seen its sales  increase by 10%.

Roberts is thought to want a quick deal before Comet suffers any further “damage” to its reputation as a result of the administration process.

Meanwhile The Sun has reported that an unnamed property baron has put forward an “outline deal” to acquire 140 of the 195 Comet stores which could save up 2,000 jobs.

Administrators Deloitte confirmed earlier this week that there would be a further 735 redundancies at the electricals retailer in addition to the 330 job losses previously announced.
