Dobbies to close 12 garden centres

Dobbies is to close 12 garden centres as part of a restructuring plan approved by the Court of Session in Scotland.

The retailer said the move will help it to return to sustainable profitability and to access future investment.

Dobbies will be exiting the leases of 12 loss making sites, although an agreement was reached with landlords for an 11th site in Antrim to remain open.

Meanwhile, an additional two sites in Morpeth and Stapleton will move to other garden centre operators.

A Dobbies spokesperson said: “We are pleased to have worked constructively with landlords on the Restructuring Plan (RP). The approval of the RP means we can now be focused on the future, building a strong platform for a return to profitability in our stores across the UK. Thank you to our colleagues, customers and supplies who have supported us during this process.”

The sites to close include Altrincham, Gloucester, Gosforth, Harlestone Heath, Huntingdon, Inverness, King’s Lynn, Pennine, Reading and Stratford-upon-Avon.,
