Dobbies is a Christmas star

Seasonal uplift for garden centre retailer
January 13 2004
Whatever else they cut back on , it is clear that Christmas trees, holly mistletoe and similar seasonal growth was high on the shopping list of UK consumer.

Dobbies Garden Centres has reported total sales for the nine weeks to December 28 increased by 17.1 per cent, growing by 12.3 per cent on a like-for-like basis.
Chief executive James Barnes said: “Although Christmas is a less important trading period for us than it is for high dtreet retailers, it is an area where we have experienced growth over the past few years.
“This year we have increased our marketing activity, both in terms of TV advertising and local events. In addition, November sales of core gardening products were strong due to the mild weather experienced in the autumn.”
