Dixons hires chief marketing officer for UK & Ireland

Dixons Retail, the owner of PC World and Currys, has appointed Telefonica executive Gary Booker as chief marketing officer for the UK and Ireland.

Booker will join Dixons in the summer when he will replace UK and Ireland marketing director Andrea Silver who is leaving the business after five years to take up a new role as a non-executive director of the Mind charity.

Having worked with Telefonica since 2010, Booker’s roles have included general manager for O2 UK and his current position of chief marketing officer for Europe at Telefonica Digital. Prior to this, he held senior marketing roles at Electronic Arts and Dunlop Slazenger.

Dixons UK & Ireland chief executive Katie Bickerstaffe said: “I’m grateful to Andrea for her contribution and commitment in recent years and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

“This is an exciting time for Currys, PC World, Knowhow and Dixons Travel, as we look to revitalise our UK marketing and advertising. Gary brings a wealth of experience with him from previous roles at O2, Electronic Arts and Dunlop Slazenger and I look forward to working with him to bring our brands even closer to our customers.”

Last month, Dixons reported that group like-for-like sales had increased by 6% in the six months to end October while underlying pre-tax profit rose to £30.2 million from £14 million in the same period in the previous year.
