Direct Golf teams up with Sports Direct
Direct Golf UK has entered into a new partnership with Sports Direct as it looks towards European expansion.
The deal sees Sports Direct take an equity stake and provide funding to help Direct Golf fulfil its ambition of becoming Europe’s number one golf equipment retailer.
Direct Golf was founded by PGA professional John Andrew in Huddersfield in 1991. The company now has 20 retail outlets nationwide and also has online and mail order operations.
Andrew will retain majority ownership and day-to-day control of the business.
Never Miss a Retail Update!Commenting on the partnership, he said: “This deal gives the company the funding to realise our goal of becoming Europe’s leading golf retail company by expanding our existing store portfolio with the roll-out of a golf superstore concept with eyes on acquisition to accelerate growth.
“This is my 30th year as a PGA professional and it’s our goal to become the retailer of choice for golfers in Europe, and we believe this new collaboration will make that aim possible.”
The company is also looking to benefit from Sports Direct’s supply chain, logistics, brand building and marketing expertise, as well as its online capability.
