DFS reports record full year sales and profits

DFS has reported record full year sales and profits as the sofa retailer continues to implement its store expansion programme and increase its market share.

In the year to 27 July, sales rose by 7.4% to £670.8 million while EBITDA grew by 4.9% to £86 million.

DFS opened eight new stores in the year, taking the total number to 97. It also relaunched its website to improve the customer experience, especially for those accessing the site via tablets and smartphones. In addition, a range of exclusive new products were launched as the retailer looked to widen its appeal to more aspirational customers.

DFS chief executive Ian Filby said: “I am pleased to report another year of progress in which we again achieved record sales and profits, and improved our market share in a challenging marketplace.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

“This performance underlines once more the growing strength of the DFS brand and the success of our strategy to broaden our appeal, enhance our service and make our products more accessible to customers than ever before, both through new store openings and our expanding multichannel offer.“

Filby said footfall and orders had been impacted by the unusually hot weather during the summer. He added: “This will be reflected in our results for the first three months of the current year, which traditionally make the smallest contribution of our four quarterly reporting periods to the full year results.”
