Debenhams to review Nectar membership

Department store looking at loyalty scheme
December 29 2003
Debenhams is to review its membership of loyalty card scheme Nectar as part of a wider revamp of the department store group’s marketing.

New chief executive Rob Templeman, told the Financial Times he is reserving judgment on whether to remain in the scheme. He said: “I am making no commitments to anything. I don’t know until I look at the information. I will be looking at everything over the next couple of months.”
Sainsbury’s, BP and Barclaycard were founder members of Nectar along with Debenhams, and the scheme has subsequently been joined by Vodafone, clothing retailer Adams and off licence chain First Quench.
As issue for Debenhams is whether the cost of being part of the scheme is justified by the value of the customer data acquired, as well as any additional custom it generates.
