Debenhams opens first store in Bulgaria
Debenhams has opened its first department store in Bulgaria as it looks to establish its brand in a strategically important market for its European expansion.
The retailer will be the anchor tenant at Bulgaria Mall in the capital Sofia, which services the affluent Boyana & Simeonovo districts. The store is the 71st international opening for Debenhams.
Spread over 45,000 square feet, the store will sell a range of clothing including brands such as H! by Henry Holland, Rocha by John Rocha and J by Jasper Conran.
There will also be a beauty hall featuring a Bourjois nail treatment and eyebrow threading facility which will be the first of its kind in Bulgaria. In addition, Yves Rocher will provide a dedicated cabin providing facial and cleansing treatments.
Never Miss a Retail Update!Francis McAuley, Debenhams international director, said: “We see Bulgaria as a strategically important market for our European expansion, and Sofia is an appealing location for our first store opening here.
“There is clearly a gap in the market for a strong department store offer. Our aspirational brands at value for money prices across fashion, cosmetics, accessories, lingerie and homeware will appeal to Bulgarian consumers.
“We intend to open further stores in Sofia and around Bulgaria and already have a second store in the pipeline for 2013/14.”
Debenhams aims to double the scale of its international business over the next five years and is also working on opportunities in Serbia and Croatia as part of a broad European focus.
