Damart plans to make up to 50 staff redundant

Thermal clothing retailer Damart is planning to make up to 50 staff redundant at its premises in Steeton and Bingley in Yorkshire.

The home shopping company said it had entered a consultation period with 50 of the 700 staff employed across the two sites.

A spokesman said the company needed to reduce staff numbers by up to 50 to increase its efficiency in today’s competitive retail environment.

Damart operates a warehouse, mail and print centre in Steeton and a call centre on the Bingley site.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

In 2010, Damart celebrated 30 years at the Steeton premises which distributes over 45 million catalogues and direct mail items each year to Damart’s 1.3 million customers across the UK.

The previous year, Damart had its most successful year ever with sales rising by 20% and a turnover approaching £100 million.
