Cubitts to open first store outside of London
Spectacle maker Cubitts is to open its first store outside of London next month in Brighton’s North Laine shopping district.
Situated on the corner of Sydney Street and Gloucester Road, the store has an interior inspired by its seaside setting. Created in collaboration with Child Studio, the design features materials such as sleek chrome, pale pine and sustainable recycled plastic materials, as well as mid-century modern furniture and a deep velvet curtain to create a luxury feel.
Cubitts founder Tom Broughton said: “This feels like somewhat of a spiritual homecoming for us. We are named after the Cubitt brothers, and one of the three, Thomas Cubitt, was involved in the building of Brighton’s Kemptown area, and lived here for a while too.”
The store will stock the brand’s Brighton Collection of spectacles which come in a choice of over three hundred acetate colours and patterns, or ethically-sourced water buffalo horn. Customers will also be offered eye examinations, repairs, adjustments and personal shopping service.
Cubitts has recently collaborated with artist and Brighton resident David Shrigley on a range spectacle cleaning cloths featuring his artwork. All proceeds from sales of the cloths are being donated to Shrigley’s chosen charity, Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
