Cotswold Outdoor plans UK wide relay to support Wings For Life charity

Staff at outdoor retailer Cotswold Outdoor are to embark on a UK wide relay that will cover 3,000 miles via canoes, rollerblades and even abseiling to raise money and awareness for spinal cord research charity Wings for Life.

Starting on Sunday 29 June, the relay will involve a baton being passed by store staff between all 69 of Cotswold Outdoor’s UK stores from Fort William to Truro.

The summer-long effort will see a range of non-motorised transport used with Covent Garden store staff completing the first leg through pedal power riding a four man bike to Cotswold Outdoor’s Leyden Street store in East London.

Paralympian skier and Wings for Life Ambassador Sean Rose, who himself suffered a spinal cord injury, will officially start the relay. As the baton travels around the country, it will be engraved with the names of each participant.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

The relay will end later this summer at the London Piccadilly store and the baton will then be framed and housed at Cotswold Outdoor’s Kemble HQ. Donations will be collected along the way and in-store to help Wings for Life fund its clinical studies and research to help find a cure for spinal cord injuries.

Cotswold Outdoor chief executive Hans Falkenburg said: “We’ve already seen lots of in-store fundraising since we announced our Wings for Life partnership and we’re hoping that the relay will be the crowning glory of our activity.

“What we have proposed is an ambitious challenge, as well as a chance for staff to show their creativity through their relay methods. We’re overwhelmed by the support we have received so far and wish all of our team members taking part the very best of luck!”
