Coffes shops at major visitor attractions

Costa is to develop a network of coffee shops at UK attractions run by the Tussaud’s Group, including Madame Tussaud’s in London.
The Whitbread owned coffee shop brand will also operate Costa stores at Alton Towers, Chessington World of Adventures, Thorpe Park, British Airways London Eye and Warwick Castle.
Costa already operates outlets linked to major visitor attractions at Stirling Castle and Portsmouth Docks.
Costa MD Mike Tye said: “Costa is known for its innovative partnerships. Tussaud’s Group currently entertains more than 10m visitors every year and our aim is to introduce as many of them as possible to the Costa coffee experience.”
A series of retail partnerships has seen Costa develop stores within branches of Abbey National, Waterstone’s, WH Smith’s and Homebase.
Costa hopes that such partnerships will enable it to develop outlets in locations with high customer footfall as the market for standalone coffee shop reaches saturation. Rival chain Coffee Republic has just announced the closure of 18 outlets, blaming intense competition.
Costa currently has more than 300 stores in the UK and plans to reach 500 by 2004.
