Cooler weather boosts sales at John Lewis

John Lewis said that cooler weather boosted footfall at its branches leading to a 4.7% increase in sales in the week to 9 July.

Operations director Dino Rocos said that clearance product, core areas and the new season’s ranges all sold well. Electricals and home technology achieved its strongest sales of the year with an increase of 9.1%, driven by sales of tablet computers and headphones. Fashion sales increased by 4.3%, and home sales rose 2.3%.

Sales at Johnlewis.com continued to growth with sales up 20% on the same week last year.

Rocos said that over half of the John Lewis branches met last year’s sales levels led by Peter Jones and Oxford Street, up 8.2% and 5.6% respectively.
