Consumers keen to reduce ‘white goods’ running costs
Almost eight out of ten consumers cite ‘lower utility bills’ as a benefit of replacing a major domestic appliance before the end of its life, a recent survey by Allianz Schemes reveals.
In a time of ever-increasing costs, consumers are looking for any opportunity to save money and their use of domestic appliances is no exception.
The research also found that people view the replacement of an existing appliance as a way of avoiding expensive breakdowns, with nearly seven out of ten citing ‘no repair bills’ as a reason to buy a new machine.
Andrew Cackett, strategic marketing manager at Allianz Schemes, comments: “Early replacement of a major domestic appliance can lead to lower energy bills, remove the threat of expensive repairs and help people to reduce their carbon footprint. The challenge lies in drawing these benefits to the attention of consumers – more than one in four respondents to our survey said they had been unaware that older appliances were less environmentally friendly and cost more to run than newer models.”
