Consumer shift from laptop to tablet continues

Latest figures from shopping comparison site Shopping.com has revealed that consumer interest in tablet computers is soaring.

The list, which highlights the fastest-growing products in August compared to a year earlier, shows an increasing interest in tablets over traditional laptops.

Searches for tablets grew by more than 2000%, year-on-year, while laptops and notebooks fell by 33%. Between July and August alone, the site saw searches for tablets increase by 241% as the shift from laptop to tablet is fuelled by an expanding range of tablets on the market.

The remainder of August’s year-on-year comparison figures saw repeat entries from clothing and baby care with growth of 28% and 27% respectively. Sports and outdoor clothing also stayed in the top search list, increasing by 22%.

Car parts and accessories made a surprise entry as the second largest grower compared to a year earlier with a 778% rise in searches.

Searches for home items were also strong during the month with paintings, posters and wall art seeing 47% growth.
