Co-operative Group’s Richard Pennycook to become chairman of Howdens
Co-operative chief executive Richard Pennycook is to become the non-executive chairman of Howdens Joinery.
Having been a non-executive director of Howdens since September 2013, Pennycook will assume the role of chairman in May 2016 when long standing chairman, Will Samuel, steps down at the close of the company’s AGM.
Pennycook is currently chief executive of the Co-operative Group, senior independent director and chairman of the audit committee of Persimmon, and non-executive chairman of The Hut Group. During the past five years, he has also held directorships at the Morrisons supermarket chain and Thomas Cook.
Howdens has also announced the appointment of Andrew Cripps as an independent non-executive director with immediate effect. Upon appointment, he will be a member of the audit, remuneration and nomination committees and will also take over as chairman of the audit committee from Pennycook following the AGM.
