Co-operative Food expands in-store electrical offer

Co-operative Food is expanding its in-store electrical range by rolling out a new-look concept to 32 stores this week.

The revamp and expansion of in-store electrical displays, which will offer top brands at internet prices, follows a successful pilot at five Co-operative food stores which saw electrical sales increase by 235%.

The 32 stores will now stock more than 100 small domestic appliances including brands such as Toshiba, Samsung, Kenwood and Morphy Richards. The new range will include everything from headphones to HD televisions, and coffee makers to food processors.

The new concept will be introduced to a further 33 stores with an existing electrical offer in the New Year.

Sean Toal, acting chief executive, The Co-operative Food, said: “The pilots have been a great success and the new-look electrical offer will complement and enhance our customers’ existing food shopping experience in these stores.

“As well as offering top brands at Internet prices, another key advantage is that the in store ‘electrical shops’ will be open during the same trading hours as the food stores, unlike most traditional electrical stores, making it much easier for consumers to find and buy what they want and when they want it.”

The Co-operative Electrical has also re-launched its website.

James Holland, managing director of The Co-operative Electrical, added: “This is an exciting time for Co-operative Electrical as we embark on a strategy for growth and the massive increase in sales during the pilot highlighted the demand for electrical goods in our food stores.”
