Co-op to recruit 1,000 staff in Andover

The Co-operative Group has launched a major recruitment drive to find 1,000 staff for its new regional distribution centre in Andover.

The retailer has announced that it needs 550 warehouse operatives, 300 drivers and around 150 administration and management staff at the depot in the town’s Commercial Park.

The 467,000 sq ft regional distribution centre is due to launch in June this year, when it will distribute more than 1.3m cases every week to more than 400 stores across southern England.

Logistics company Norbert Dentressangle has been awarded the contract to run transport operations at Andover, while warehouse operations will be operated in-house by The Co-operative Group.

Mark Leonard, The Co-operative Group’s Regional Head of Logistics, said: “Our new regional distribution centre will not only provide major employment locally but will also help further boost the local economy for many years to come. This is a major investment in and commitment to the local community and we would encourage as many people from the Andover area to apply.

He added: “The Co-operative Group’s food business has significantly grown in recent years and our logistics operation has undergone a major overhaul to develop accordingly. This investment will help us to continue to provide high standards of service to our customers, while also allowing for further growth.”
