Carphone Warehouse signs 3G deal
Retailer to stock Hutchinson products
December 6 2002
Carphone Warehouse has signed a commercial contract with telecoms services provider Hutchison 3G, trading under the brand name Three.
The contract will see Carphone Warehouse, Europe’s leading mobile phone retailer, become an official distributor of Hutchison 3G’s third generation mobile devices and services. The products will be available across all of its 470 UK stores.
3G is seen as a vital next stage in revitalising sales in the mobile communications sector, which has slowed down as the market has matured. While other developers have delayed launching the technology in order to overcome some of its reported teething difficulties, Hutchinson has pressed ahead in order to be among the first to market.
Carphone Warehouse founder and Chief Executive Charles Dunstone said last month that the business is well positioned to benefit from the opportunities offered by new mobile applications.
