Carpetright sales push ahead

Debenhams move to boost concession numbers
Carpetright has reported trading in line with group expectations across the 25 weeks to October 23, and is expanding its successful concession business.

The carpet and laminate floors specialist said UK and Ireland sales grew 8.8 per cent, with like-for-like sales up by 3.3 per cent. Carpetright’s concessions in Allders department stores accounted for 3.1 per cent of the total sales increase, and the group is to open new concessions in Debenhams stores during November this year and early 2005.
The Benelux business has continued to make ‘solid progress’ with same store sales up by 3.6 per cent in local currency. Carpetright said it continued to increase market share “in what remain difficult trading conditions, particularly in Holland”.
Lord Harris of Peckham, chairman and chief executive said: “Our UK business has continued to make good progress. We continue to grow market share and improve profits compared to last year. Our Benelux business has continued to make solid progress with growth in sales, market share and profit. The business remains on track towards our medium term objectives.”
