Carpetright sales improve in third quarter
Carpet and floor coverings retailer Carpetright saw its UK like-for-like sales climb by 7.5% in its third quarter as it benefited from effective promotions and an interest free credit offer. Total UK sales increased by 6.6%
Like-for-like sales in the retailer’s Rest of Europe business, which includes the Netherlands, Belgium and the Republic of Ireland, rose by 1.7% in the 13 week period to 24 January. Total sales edged down 0.8% but declined by 6% after taking into account the impact of currency movements.
The retailer closed two UK stores in the period to take the total to 461. It also shuttered two stores in its Rest of Europe business to leave a total of 137 outlets.
Carpetright chief executive Wilf Walsh said: “I am pleased to report that the group’s trading performance improved year-on-year during the third quarter.
“In the UK our continued focus on effective promotional activity and the introduction of an interest free credit offer from Boxing Day has delivered a like-for-like performance slightly ahead of the level experienced in the first half. Sales in our Rest of Europe business have also continued to improve.
“Trading remains in line with management’s expectations and our view for the year as a whole remains unchanged.”
