Carpetright has sales covered
Strong growth across second half
Carpetright has seen total UK sales increase by 8.6 per cent across the 24 weeks to April 17, with like-for-like sales up by 4.2 per cent.
In a post-Easter trading update, Carpetright said margins are level with the same period last year and costs remain under control. The business now trades from 364 stores as well as 38 carpet concessions in Allders department stores.
Carpetright’s Benelux business has continued to grow same store sales. The business now trades from 88 stores, with the first new store since the business was acquired by Carpetright two years opened at the end of March.
Lord Harris of Peckham, chairman and chief executive, said: “Our UK business has seen an encouraging trading period up to and including Easter following a strong January sale. We continue to grow market share and improve profits compared to last year.
“Our Benelux business has again shown encouraging progress towards our medium term objectives with better same store sales, margin and costs compared to last year as well as further growth in market share.”
Last month, Carpetright entered into a joint venture with manufacturer Associated Weavers International to purchase the assets and operations of distributor Carpet Express from the receiver. Both Carpetright and AWI are among its customers.
