Sales growth across quarter
February 3 2004
Carpetright saw good sales growth in the run-up to Christmas and into the January sale period.

The UK business notched up a total sales increase of 7.3 per cent in the 13 weeks to January 31, with like for like sales up by 4.6 per cent.
The company now operates 364 UK stores, as well as 18 concessions in Allders department stores.
Carpetright said its 87 store Benelux business, acquired in 2002, ‘continues to perform in line with expectations with same store sales showing growth’.
Chairman and chief executive Lord Harris of Peckham said: “Our UK business has seen an encouraging January sale period with strong like for like and total sales growth, as well as continued improvement in market share.
“With gross margin firm and variable costs remaining tightly controlled we continue to improve profits compared to last year.
“Our Benelux business continues to show encouraging progress towards our medium term objectives with growth in market share combined with gross margin and cost improvements coming through.”
