Capital Shopping Centres welcomes film club to Eldon Square
Capital Shopping Centres has partnered with Newcastle charity and independent arts venue Tyneside Cinema, to launch what it believes to be the first holiday film club for children within a shopping centre.
CSC’s Eldon Square shopping centre, which attracts 36 million shoppers a year, has provided space to Tyneside Cinema for a pop-up film school for children between the ages of 8 and 15. The school, which is operated by the largest independent cinema in the north east, will run over the summer holidays from 23 July to the end of August and during school holidays later in the year.
Martin Breeden, asset management director at CSC, said: “This initiative provides an exciting new opportunity for children and teenagers to spend their summer holidays doing something they are unlikely to have tried before, helping them to develop new skills and talents. Tyneside Cinema has won many awards for their film making work with children and we are proud to be involved with them. This also helps us support our local communities, which is at the heart of how we operate throughout CSC.”
Mark Dobson, chief executive of Tyneside cinema, added: “Tyneside Cinema is committed to developing the audiences and filmmakers of tomorrow and it is very exciting that businesses like Eldon Square share these objectives to give young people in our city opportunities they would otherwise not have. We are very grateful to CSC for their innovative support of this project and look forward to the next year.”
Never Miss a Retail Update! The film school will be located on Sidgate and High Friars near the Monument entrance in Eldon Square and will comprise 26,000 sq ft of space. As well as working with local film talent, the school will allow youngsters the chance to shoot and edit their own short films with a special screening for their family and friends towards the end of each week.
Tyneside Cinema will have exclusive use of the space for up to 12 months.
