Capital Shopping Centres reports steady footfall

Shopping centre owner Capital Shopping Centres has reported a second consecutive quarter of steady footfall as occupancy levels within its developments held up at 96%.

In the quarter ending 6 November, CSC saw 45 new long team leases signed and brought a number of new brands to its centres including Apple, Vivienne Westwood, A|X, Hamley’s and Schuh Kids.

It also secured planning consent for 325,000 sq ft retail extension at the Lakeside shopping centre in Essex and agreed terms for the  redevelopment of Charter Place, which adjoins its Harlequin Centre in Watford, to create a combined 1.4 million sq ft regional destination.

David Fischel, chief executive of CSC Group, said: “Our prime UK shopping centres have recorded positive momentum with steady footfall figures and the opening of 60 new stores and restaurants in the period.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

“We continue to make good progress on our pipeline of active management projects and extensions which will ensure that our centres continue to provide attractive destinations to consumers and retailers for the long term.”

CSC operates 15 shopping centres across the UK including Manchester’s Arndale, the Metrocentre in Gateshead and St David’s in Cardiff.
