Calls to Retail Trust helpline up 300% in last three days as retail workers fear redundancy
The Retail Trust has reported a threefold increase in calls to its free, confidential helpline in the last three days from retail employees fearing redundancy.
The Trust, which is the only charity looking after the needs of those working in the UK retail industry, said that calls this month to the helpline have increased by 40% compared to June last year.
With staff from Jane Norman, Habitat, Dolphin, Thornton’s, T J Hughes and Carpetright all at threat of redundancy the Retail Trust said its helpline aimed to offer help and a possible solution through its free ReWork Programme.
The programme, which is worth over £1,000, includes a free downloadable Resolving Redundancy Guide, free personal career coaching, free Resolving Redundancy Workshops in London each month and links to retailers who are currently recruiting.
Retail Trust’s CEO, Nigel J L Rothband, said: “These are very difficult times for people in retail and as our tagline states Retail Trust is here to look after all people in retail and that’s exactly what we will do. Our Helpline team are on hand now taking calls, answering emails and texts from worried retail staff and I would urge anyone worried about redundancy, debt, stress or anything else at all to get in touch with our team who are here to support them when they need us the most.
“Contacting the Helpline 0808 801 0808 is free, confidential and independent and the team are on hand to help retail staff today and every day.”
