Burberry showcases collection via Twitter
Burberry, the iconic British fashion brand, used its participation in London Fashion Week to show its collection via Twitter yesterday in a bid to reach the largest audience possible.
The fashion house developed a “Tweetwalk” with Twitter where backstage Twitpics of every outfit were taken and shared with Burberry’s Twitter followers before the models even stepped onto the catwalk in the marquee in London’s Hyde Park.
This meant that Twitter followers were able to see the clothes minutes before the live audience.
The company also streamed the catwalk show live in HD through burberry.com and Facebook. In addition, livestreams were formatted for viewing on the Chinese social networks Sina Weibo and Youku, as well as for smartphone and tablet platforms.
For one week following the show, Burberry is offering bags and outerwear from the collection for purchase at burberry.com and at “retail theatre” events in more than 45 of its locations worldwide. Burberry said orders are expected to arrive within eight weeks, which is several months earlier than when the rest of the collection will be available online and in-store.
