Bullring notches up a million visitors
Revitalised Birmingham shopping centre brings in the crowds
September 10
Bullring notched up its one millionth visitor just five days after the high profile opening of the Birmingham city centre shopping development.
Pedestrian traffic through Bullring is a key early measure of its success, since it has been designed to link seamlesly with the existing city street layout. The numbers have been compiled using a pedestrian counting system provided by FootFall.
Dr. Ian Wilcock business development director at FootFall, said: “Over the last six months we have worked very closely with Bullring project management team to ensure that the system meets and exceeds their expectations as far as information management availability is concerned.
“On the opening day we were able to provide to Bullring management, as well as the retailers who have our systems installed, regular updates on a number of key measures: the total number of visitors to the centre; the number at specific parts of the centre; and the number going into the key retailers’ stores.”
The figures are available on Bullring intranet or via an interactive service where information can be read over the Internet using a secure log in. There are 158 counters both in and around the centre, itself as well as an additional 30 counters in key retailers such as Selfridges, Next and Oasis. The infrastructure is in place to eventually count at any of the 140 retailers on site.
