B&Q to acquire three Homebase stores in Ireland
Kingfisher has announced that B&Q has reached agreements to acquire three Homebase stores in the Republic of Ireland for around £3.2 million.
The company said the new sites in Letterkenny, Navan and Waterford will complement B&Q Ireland’s existing network of eight stores in the country.
Following their conversion to the B&Q banner, the sites will have a combined total selling area of over 9,300 square metres and will also have TradePoint counters for timber cutting and paint mixing.
Subject to landlord and customary regulatory approvals, the transactions are expected to complete in the first quarter of Kingfisher’s 2025/26 financial year.
A first store will be converted to the B&Q banner in the first half of next year and and the remaining sites will be completed by the end of 2025.
Following a period of consultation with employees at the stores, they will become employees of B&Q when the transaction completes.
Graham Bell, chief executive of B&Q, said: “We’re delighted to be adding these three stores to our fantastic store network. We’re determined to give home improvers the choice and convenience they deserve, and these locations need a home improvement store that fulfils their need.
“We look forward to swiftly concluding the purchase and converting the stores to the B&Q brand and offer, and to welcoming our new customers to the stores and new colleagues to the B&Q family.”
