Boots trading on steady course

Like-for-likes up 2.5 per cent
September 30 2002
Boots The Chemists grew sales by around 3.5 per cent overall in the first half of the year, with like-for-likes up 2.5 per cent.

In a trading statement issued ahead of meetings with analysis designed to persuade the City that its strategy is on track in the face of increasing competition in the health & beauty market, Boots said the mix of sales in the second quarter was in line with that experienced in the first.
The figures compare with like-for-like sales growth of 2.1 per cent in the same period last year.
Consumer brands arm Boots Healthcare International saw sales growth of around 11 per cent in the first half.
The company said: “Management remains confident that it will deliver a full year trading performance in line with its expectations at the start of the year. The investment programme announced in May 2002 is on track and will be reflected in the first half results.”
The half year results will be announced on November 7.
