Boots to close in-store photolabs
Boots is to close the photo processing labs in 160 of its 520 stores according to reports. The move will put up to 300 jobs at risk.
The retailer will instead provide customers with access to instant print touch screen kiosks in store or they will be offered the option of sending their film away for development by post.
Although Boots has confirmed 160 store closures, the Sun has reported that company insiders have claimed that the retailer plans to shut as many as 300 of the in-store mini-labs and will also stop selling cameras, frames and albums at “selected stores”.
The news comes as Boots executive chairman Stefano Pessina yesterday criticised what he considered to be an anti-business culture in the UK which he said could lead to global businesses moving overseas.
